Mottled Mojarra (Ulaema lefroyi)

Synonyms: Eucinostomus lefroyi, Diapterus lefroyi, Florida Mojarra, Grass Shad, Longbone Shad

 

 

 

Ulaema lefroyi (or Eucinostomus lefroyi) occurs in the western Atlantic from North Carolina (USA) to São Paulo, Brazil, e.g., in Bermuda, the Bahamas, the Gulf of Mexico, and throughout the Caribbean; at depths 0-45 m. It is common in coastal areas, including estuaries. Silvery; the back broadly mottled; up to 23 cm in total length. Mottled Mojarra feeds on marine invertebrates, including polychaetes, copepods and barnacles.
